Rain soaked lawns,

tall trees shedding tears

as we sadly lay to rest

one of our finest peers.

Squirrels playfully darting

from the bushes and the tree’s,

smiling at the silent souls

they, far too often, see.

The mourners stand in silence

as you pass them slowly by,

with love and loss in their sunken hearts

and tears in their weary eyes.

Lapels are all adorned and full

of colours, oh-so bold,

their hue’s, a loving tribute

to one so dearly held.

Red denotes the fiery flames

within your caring heart

and yellow shines the light of love

you, so often, did impart.

You leave behind four gentle girls,

a loving lad and a Mother of pearls,

forever dreaming of their doting Dad

and the fun and laughter they so briefly had.

They will now need even more

of their Mother’s dearest love,

to cuddle them and hold them close

as you watch them from above.

A Mother, a partner, a soulmate she is,

every moment you shared, a moment of bliss

and though her world’s been torn apart,

she will hold you close within her aching heart.

The grounds all around

are so quiet; so still,

as a gaggle of Geese

cross a slippery hill.

Their passing, a message maybe,

that life must now go on;

that the candle has been passed

from loving father to his son.

The squirrels flit so fast away

and geese march line abreast,

I wonder at the profusion of life

in such a place of rest.

Farewell my dear friend, Andrew,

your passing was far too fleet,

but I worry not, for one bright day,

we may all, once again, meet.”

  3. Darren, I’m so sorry that you’ve lost a friend, and such a good one that you had to write it out. Beautiful words for him too. We seem to be getting of an age of that, no? I’ll remember his family in my night prayers…you too.
