END OF THE LINE

The heat of a sultry summers’ day

and the news wasn’t good,

you were going away.

Vow’s made down by the lover’s brook

are just trickling memories

of the love that you took.

A heart that once was full of life

is now just a shell

on the edge of a knife.

A vignette, closing in on a world,

as into the abyss

my mind was hurled.

Dreams and goals, we shared as a bond,

are creeping away

as a thief, to abscond.

The feelings; the love of life we shared,

the togetherness, the passion

so beyond compare.

All drifting by on the hands of time

and forever out of reach;

no longer mine.

I reach out to you a last trembling hand

but you slip through my fingers,

like silken, soft sand.

I have nought but a memory as a parting gift,

and pride that at one time,

your heart, I could lift.

Your image will live for many years to come,

as we finally reach the end

and all is said and done.
