TEARS IN THE DARKNESS

TEARS IN THE DARKNESS

What do you do when

you can’t stop the tears,

when your mind is overwhelmed

by your darkest fears?

When you dread the day

that will very soon come

and you reach the end

where it all once began.

The deep breath of life

slips beyond your reach,

though you beg and plead

and tearfully beseech.

Just one more day;

a month; a year,

to enjoy before goodbyes

are all you can hear.

But the dark vignette tinge

is creeping in from the edge

and your soul; your life;

your very essence, you pledge.

I’m not ready for the exit,

it’s too early to leave,

I beg you, on my knees,

for just one more reprieve?
